IAEA/PACT Specialist comes to Vietnam

Wednesday, May 13th 2009, From 4th - 8th May 2009, Mrs. Angela Ryan-Rappaport, the Specialist of Program of Action for Cancer Treatment (PACT) of the International Atomic Energy Agency has come to Vietnam to work in the term of cooperation program between Vietnam and IAEA for cancer prevention. The purpose of this business trip is to learn about priorities of the Government and the leading cancer agencies in Vietnam in performance of projects related to the national cancer control program are against the middle term and short term funding requirements; evaluate the cooperation potentialities between PACT and partners; meet some international agencies and organizations in Vietnam with a view to call for funding cancer control program in Vietnam; finally, help Vietnam to outline Application for Aid to the cancer control program.
During stay in Vietnam, Mrs. Rappaport has visited and worked with K Hospital, National Cancer Institute, Cancer Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City as well as some international agencies and organizations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, such as Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Australian Aid Program (AusAID), Representative Office of World Health Organization (WHO), non-governmental organizations as Atlantic Philanthropies, HealthBrighe Canada, Family Health International, Embassy of the United States, Representative Office of JICA, Terry Fox Foundation and Consulate General of Canada etc.
Furthermore, during stay in Hanoi, in May 6th 2009, Mrs. Rappaport has worked with the Leaders of Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission at the Head Office of the Commission. The Prof. PhD Vuong Huu Tan, Director of Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission has greeted Mrs. Rappaport in an informal manner. After expressed his gratitude and highly appreciated cooperation and supports of IAEA in the field of cancer treatment, Mr. Vuong Huu Tan has informed some major features of construction and performance of the National Cancer Prevention Program in the term of Overall Plan for Performance of Strategy for Application of Atomic Energy for peace sake of Vietnam until 2020. Mrs. Rappaport thanked supports of Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission for complete success of her business trip. And she believes that upon results of this trip, IAEA shall work out more specific and effective plan to call for supports and assistances of the countries and international organizations for the Cancer Prevention Program in Vietnam.
